Power that starts with the load, not the guess

Electrical problems in construction are usually arithmetic problems discovered too late: a service sized by habit, a panel schedule that doesn't match the load calculation, a utility that wants a different answer than the drawings give. Torch starts every electrical design with the load — calculated, documented, and traced through the distribution — so the service, the switchgear, and the panels agree with each other and with what the building will actually draw.

Scope and deliverables

· Service and distribution design — sizing, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and fault-current coordination
· Load calculations that document existing and new demand, the document utilities and reviewers ask for first
· Lighting design and controls, coordinated with energy-code requirements
· Panel upgrades and service changes for buildings that have outgrown their electrical backbone
· EV charging design — load management, distribution, and the permit package charging projects require
· Tenant-improvement and ground-up electrical sets, coordinated with the full MEP package

Deliverables are a permit-ready electrical set with the supporting calculations, sealed through Apex Grid Engineering's licensed Professional Engineers, with plan-check responses handled by the design team.

Where the work concentrates

Panel and service upgrades for older commercial buildings adding load — kitchens, workshops, medical and lab tenants, EV fleets. Tenant improvements where the electrical scope decides the schedule. Ground-up commercial and industrial work where distribution has to be designed, not inherited. State coverage starts with electrical engineering in Arizona.

How the design gets coordinated

Electrical design touches every other system in the building — the mechanical equipment it feeds, the fire alarm it powers and signals through, the lighting the energy code grades. Torch designs electrical inside the same office as those disciplines, so panel schedules reflect the actual mechanical loads, alarm pathways are drawn against the real ceiling plan, and the lighting layout and the energy package tell the same story. That coordination is invisible when it works, and it is the difference between an electrical set that installs cleanly and one that generates RFIs by the dozen.

Common questions

When is an electrical engineer required?

Most commercial electrical work beyond like-for-like replacement needs engineered drawings — service changes, distribution changes, and anything the jurisdiction wants calculated rather than asserted. Panel upgrades are the classic case: the utility and the reviewer both want a load calculation, and producing it is engineering work.

What is a load calculation?

The documented arithmetic of what a building draws now and will draw after your project — demand factors applied per code, existing load accounted for, new load added. It is the difference between a service upgrade that gets approved and one that gets argued with.

Who stamps the electrical drawings?

All PE stamping is backed by Apex Grid Engineering, whose licensed Professional Engineers seal the work in the project state. Torch does not present itself as the licensed entity.
